A Redwood Hill Farm Giveaway!

April 2nd, 2013 by The Big Potluck

Big Traveling Potluck 2013: Redwood Hill Farm       Big Traveling Potluck 2013: Green Valley Lactose Free

We are proud to announce that Redwood Hill Farm is one of our sponsors for Big Traveling Potluck this year. Located in Sebastopol, California, Redwood Hill Farm is a woman-owned and family-operated goat dairy farm that is Certified Humane and 100% solar-powered. Their goat yogurt, kefir, and cheese are natural, healthful, and free from preservatives, colorings, and stabilizers. Did we mention their stuff tastes incredible? But that’s not surprising. Dairy that is produced sustainably and that is as least-processed as possible can only be creamy, smooth, and delicious.

Redwood Hill Farm also recently launched a cow dairy line called Green Valley Organics which has lactose-free yogurt, kefir, and the best sour cream on earth (try it, you won’t disagree!). We’re looking forward to using their products in different ways, from parfaits to salad dressings, at Big Traveling Potluck. Make sure you connect with them before the event on their social media platforms and then in-person at the event!

Here’s more from our sponsor:

Good for You, Good for the Planet, Good for the Animals, Since 1968

We are looking forward to meeting all of you at the upcoming Big Traveling Potluck and introducing you to our two great choices from a family business you can feel good about: Redwood Hill Farm® goat yogurts, kefirs and cheeses and Green Valley Organics® cow dairy brand, the first line of lactose free yogurts and kefirs to be available nationwide.

Each goat and cow dairy product made at Redwood Hill Farm & Creamery Inc.’s solar-powered creamery, in addition to being absolutely delicious, is also GMO free, gluten free, kosher certified and Certified Humane Raised and Handled®. The products contain no artificial flavors, sweeteners, coloring, preservatives or stabilizers. It’s all natural, wholesome goodness you can taste, from our family to yours.

One of you won’t have to wait. As an appe-teaser, we’ve put together a sampler of some of our most popular products for you to enjoy just as they are or as ingredients in a favorite recipe or a new creation. You will enjoy: Redwood Hill Farm Goat Milk Cheddar and Smoked Cheddar, Raw Milk Feta and our fresh and flavored chevres. For serving, we’re inlcuding our Redwood Hill cheeseboard and cheese knives. Kefir from Redwood Hill Farm (Mango-Orange-Pineapple) and Green Valley Organics (Plain) and the creamiest, most delicious sour cream from Green Valley Organics will also be included.

Big Traveling Potluck 2013: A Redwood Hill Farm Giveaway!

Until we meet at Big Traveling Potluck, we hope you’ll get to know us at,, The Bleat Beat blog, Facebook and Twitter (@RedwoodHillFarm).

This is what makes Redwood Hill “a different kind of dairy”:

• Healthful, natural, and delicious specialty dairy products: All products are free of preservatives, coloring, stabilizers, and only 100% fresh milk and organic fruits are used
• Guarantee the health, happiness, and ethical treatment of all our dairy animals: While Redwood Hill Farm is the first Certified Humane goat dairy in the U.S., the single source cow dairy that provides milk for Redwood Hill Farm & Creamery’s new Green Valley Organics Lactose Free line is also Certified Humane
• Commitment to sustainability: Electric vehicle recharging stations; manure and straw/hay stems are composted or used as mulch around the fruit trees; reclaimed water is used to clean areas where acceptable
• 100% Solar Powered: Since 2010, two acres of solar roof panels have generated all the power needed to run the creamery; in 2011, their goat dairy farm where Jennifer, Scott and brother David live went solar too
• Support our contributing dairies: Family farm producers are compensated with a fair price for their milk
• Support the community: For over 30 years Redwood Hill Farm has donated to and partnered with youth and agriculture organizations, local health needs, and environmental causes in our community
• Honor and value our employees: All employees are paid a living wage; receive full health care for all employees and their families; employee reward program for new ideas for re-using and recycling that keeps everyone on the alert for new ways to protect our environment
• Demonstrate integrity: Commitment to fair business practices with all business partners

To win this giveaway, just tell us: Have you ever cooked with kefir? What have you made? For suggestions and creative ways to use kefir (a liquid yogurt that’s great by itself, blended in smoothies or used like buttermilk in recipes) go to Green Valley Lactose Free or Redwood Hill Farm.

For an extra entry (and pictures of cute baby goats!), like Redwood Hill Farm on Facebook here and leave a comment telling us you’ve done so!

Giveaway ends 12noon PST on April 15.

Announcing: Big Traveling Potluck 2013!

November 15th, 2012 by The Big Potluck

Back in 2010, we hosted our very first Big Summer Potluck in Bucks County, Pennsylvania as a way to meet new friends and do our part to make our community a little bigger, a little better, a little stronger. It must have worked because our friends have continued to come back year after year, and so many new ones have joined us! After three years of hosting this wonderful event in our own backyard, we thought we’d see if our West Coast friends would like it too, so we’re finally taking this potluck on the road! While “BSP” has evolved and changed, we’re committed to our original mission: build community.

LOCATION & DATES: The first Big Traveling Potluck is April 26-28, 2013 (Friday night to Sunday noon) at the gorgeous Plateau Edge in Murietta, CA, nearly equidistant from Los Angeles and San Diego.

TICKET PRICE: Attendees know we pride ourselves in keeping prices low ($150 for BSP 2012). But a show on the road is more expensive than one in your backyard—think of the cost of a restaurant dinner versus preparing one in your own home. Tickets for Big Traveling Potluck are only slightly higher ($199) and that still includes all meals, sessions, and transportation to and from our host hotel to Plateau Edge. There will be 75 tickets available.

Tickets go on sale on Monday, November 26th at 10 AM PST. We’ll post the link to the registration page on our website, via Twitter, and on Facebook. While we don’t expect tickets to sell out immediately, last year’s BSP tickets were gone in less than 10 minutes. If you think you want to come, be ready to purchase as soon as you can after they go on sale. Not around? Ask a friend to buy your ticket for you.

SPEAKERS: We’re very excited about our West coast speakers. You may have heard them before, but not like this. They’re bloggers and photographers, yes, but they’ll certainly not talk about traffic, monetization, or SEO. With the theme “Invest in Yourself,” these speakers will be gettin’ real.

Here’s our mind-blowingly awesome lineup of talent:

From left to right: Ree Drummond of The Pioneer Woman, Matt Armendariz of Matt Bites, and HJ Hearn of Helen Jane.

Gaby Dalkin and Lori Lange will also be cooking up something for us as we help them celebrate the April release of their new cookbooks, Absolutely Avocados and The Recipe Girl Cookbook.

WHAT TO EXPECT: We’ll learn and share loads this weekend, but it’s mostly about having a whole heck of a lot of fun. In our Big Potluck tradition, we’ll start with cocktails and dinner on Friday night. This is your chance to catch up with friends you haven’t seen for months and meet the people you’ve only known through Twitter.

Saturday starts early and ends late, so dress comfortably and come ready to eat, learn, be inspired, and party in the evening. (If it’s anything like BSP, the merriment will continue back at the hotel!)

Sunday ends with a big brunch where we’ll reflect on the weekend and finally say goodbye … or until next time!

ACCOMODATIONS: We have a room block at the Spring Hill Suites Marriott in Temecula… but only until December 28, 2012. Reserve your room with the code “Potluck”. Because our BTP shuttle will pick up and drop off from this hotel only, please book your rooms here asap. Plus, you don’t want to miss out on the late night fun with the other attendees. Plus there’s an indoor-outdoor pool. Plus Temecula is wine country. Enough said!

AIRPORT: The closest major airport is Ontario Airport (ONT). (That’s Ontario, California, not Canada.) You can also fly into San Diego or Los Angeles and rent a car or carpool with friends.

We’ll share more info about the Big Traveling Potluck (hashtag #BTP1) soon. In the meantime, follow us on Twitter (@thebigpotluck) and Facebook for updates.

We look forward to seeing you all in April for food, inspiration, and some big time community.

Until then … Cheers!
Maggy, Erika & Pam

P.S. In case you were wondering, we’re still hosting Big Summer Potluck in the East coast next year. Yep, that’s right. We’ll have two potlucks in 2013!
